About Mrs. Walls
I am very excited to be teaching 6th grade again at St. Francis Xavier School this year. I love exploring and studying topics within social studies, and I enjoy getting lost in a good book. I also love to write and teach grammar! I especially like to work with the students on incorporating research and writing skills within social studies.
I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Loyola University Chicago. (Go Ramblers!) In 2020, I earned my Master's Degree in Education with a focus on technology from Dominican University. I also passed the necessary certification to earn a Technology Specialist endorsement. During these courses, I learned many strategies on ways technology can enhance learning, which have definitely proven to be useful over the past few years. This year will be my 15th year teaching. Besides teaching 6th grade for 7 years, I have previously taught 3rd grade at SFX, and 4th grade at Immaculate Conception-St. Joseph School in Chicago. Additionally, for two years, I have worked as the Curriculum Coordinator at SFX by providing curriculum support to the faculty. As one of the 6th-grade teachers this year, my goal is to create a classroom where all of my students feel comfortable to learn and grow. Academically, we will explore many new topics and ideas. Socially, I will work to create an environment where the students support one another and celebrate each other’s differences and unique talents. I am a strong supporter of Catholic education. Growing up, I have been a student in the Archdiocese of Chicago’s schools since pre-school, including Divine Infant and Fenwick. In my spare time, I enjoy singing karaoke, dancing, scrapbooking, traveling, reading, and spending time with friends and family. My husband and I have a daughter named Julia who is two and a half years old. She has brought so much happiness to our lives! I am looking forward to meeting and working with all of you this school year! Let's have a great year! ~Mrs. Laura Walls 2024-2025 |
